Set of four studio pottery plates, part of a larger group of ceramics from a Claremont estate, these have no date but the other pieces were mid to late 1960's. Color & crackle glaze over grey body stoneware (imprinted seal on base), thrown and trimmed well-they have a satisfying weight to them. From PCC yesterday.

These are great-
the grey body is most likely the result of these being fired Raku style. The lack of oxygen turns the clay black. The crackle glaze is also an indication of Raku.

Q-does Raku wear produce a slightly duller sound when tapped-as opposed to the ring of high fire stoneware/porcelain?.more thud less bell etc
as for the thud, absolutely, Raku is fired to a much lower temp, therefore no maturity or vitrification of the ware leaving a thud rather than a stoney porcelainous bell.

Never a rain out-half of the market is in the parking structure...I like the quieter scene on the rainy days.
